Hosting an Event is Easy!

Gather your friends, neighbours, family, colleagues and community and hold a fun event in aid of A Lust for Life. Events can be anything–a 5K walk, a pub quiz, golf tournament, concert…whatever!

1. Sign Up

Sign up as an Event Host. All you need are basic details about your event (which you can always edit later). After you sign up, you’ll get access to your Event Page.

2. Share

When you’re ready, share your Event Page via email, text and social media along with a link to your Event Page. We have social share graphics and posters that make event promotion easy!

3. Rise Up!

People can sign up for your event via your Event Page. When they do, they’ll get their own fundraising page where they can collect donations from their personal networks. The total amount raised by all participants in your event will show up on your event page.

Can't think of your own event? No problem.

Last October I hosted an event in The Helix theatre, to raise funds for mental health in collaboration with A Lust For Life. I reached out to lots of people I knew…and since it was a charity event, they were really willing to help. I got loads of bums on seats, which was fantastic!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sell tickets to my event?
add remove

Instead of selling tickets to your event, we highly recommend that you ask for a minimum donation amount instead. That way people will be able to give as much as they can (feel comfortable with)…and you will end up raising more funds overall.

If you really want to charge a ticket fee, then it is possible. You can set up a ticket fee amount when you register your event on our website. When someone goes to your Event Page to sign up for your event, they will be asked to pay that fee *Note: Ticket fees collected via the website (or collected at the event) should be treated like donations and should not be used to cover event expenses.

Do my event participants have to sign up through the website?

It’s preferred that you ask people to sign up for your event via your Event Page. When they do, they’ll get their own personal fundraising page which they can share with their personal networks to collect donations. They will also qualify to earn badges and rewards for their fundraising. Any money raised by your participants will also show up in the fundraising total on the Event Page. You will also be able to send an email to all of the event participants through your Event Page.

Do my event participants have to fundraise?

add remove
No…unless you require it as part of their participation in your event. Keep in mind that participant fundraising is the most effective way to raise as much money as possible via your Event. The more money your Event raises, the greater the impact on youth mental health.
Will I get my own fundraising page as Host?
add remove
No. Instead you can share your Event Page with your friends and family so they can either join the event or make a donation to the Event Page.
Should I get companies to sponsor my event?

It’s up to you! We certainly see many Event Hosts be successful at getting donations from local businesses….both cash (via online donations) as well as in-kind donations such as raffle prizes, signs, decorations, entertainment, food, beverages and other event materials. If you plan to contact companies, please let A Lust for Life know ahead of time at support@alustforlife.com.

Can I get banners or materials for my event?
add remove

We have tools available for download including posters, bunting and more!

Also, when you register as an Event Host, you’ll receive a Welcome Kit via post within 2 weeks. The Welcome Kit includes a wristband, a poster (which you can customise with your event details), some stickers and a Fundraising Guide which can also be folded and used as a tabletop sign.

If there are other materials which you’d like to request for your event, please contact us.

What if I collect cash at my event?

Simply make an online donation on your Event Page based on the total funds you collected at your event. Be sure to select the “Collected Offline” button on the donation form so we know it’s not a personal donation. For advice on how to collect cash at your event, please view our Community Fundraising Guidelines and Cash Remittance Advice Sheet.

Planning and producing the event or activity is the fundraisers sole responsibility. A Lust for Life can provide relevant fundraising resources as well as offering support and guidance regarding your fundraising.

What we can do: • Offer advice and expertise on event planning, promotion and budgeting. • Provide templates and other resources. • Provide key campaign messages and social media handles and hashtags. • Provide education materials about the work we do.

What we cannot do: • Provide onsite staff or volunteer support at your fundraising activity. • Extend our tax exemption to you. • Provide funding or reimbursement of supporter expenses, except under reasonable circumstances which is preapproved. • Solicit sponsorship revenue or goods for your fundraising activity. • Provide celebrities / ambassadors for your fundraising activity. • Provide mailing lists of donors, medical staff, employees, volunteers or vendors.

Our team is here to help you plan a successful event. So, if you have a question or need help, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Just remember you are creating a space for people to come together and support a good cause and that's an incredible thing to do.
