Event Host Tips & Tools
Secrets for Success

1. Ask everyone you know
Ask them to join the event and/or make a donation. They can also help spread the word to their networks. Keep in mind that most people need to be asked twice before they’ll take action….so be sure to send reminders!

2. Encourage participants to fundraise!
Best way to do this is to encourage participants to sign up for your event via your Event Page. That way they’ll get their own personal fundraising page which they can share with their personal networks to collect donations!

3. Add a raffle!
Collect prizes from local businesses and then sell raffle tickets at your event. After the event, login to your Host Dashboard to donate the funds you collected.
Words of advice from past event hosts
"Last October I did an event in The Helix theatre, to raise funds for mental health in collaboration with A Lust For Life. It felt great to feel the money coming in and it's a really brilliant feeling and a sense of accomplishment. If you're nervous and if it's your first time running an event, just go for it! Ask for help and be safe in the knowledge that, because it's a charity event, people are really willing to give you a helping hand."
Brian, hosted an event at The Helix

"Just remember you are creating a space for people to come together and support a good cause and that's an incredible thing to do."
Sean, Hosted a breathwork and pilates event in Cork

"We sent regular updates to anyone who had donated through our fundraising page...reminding them about the event inspired them to tell others...who also donated! We were amazed by the support, having initially aimed for a goal of €500 we raised €1705!"
Linsey, Hosted a kayak event with friends & family

"Definitely publicise that you will be fundraising in advance of the event. Also make it really clear where people's money is going... no one likes donating to something where they don't really know where the money is going."
Zara, Hosted a Rise Up Welcome Walk for Powerscourt NS Cahill

Frequently Asked Questions
Instead of selling tickets to your event, we highly recommend that you ask for a minimum donation amount instead. That way people will be able to give as much as they can, and you will end up raising more funds overall.
If you really want to charge a ticket fee, then it is possible. You can set up a ticket fee amount when you register your event on our website. When someone goes to your event page to sign up for your event, they will be asked to pay that fee
*Note: Ticket fees collected via the website (or collected at the event) should be treated like donations and should not be used to cover event expenses.

It’s up to you! We certainly see many event hosts be successful at getting donations from local businesses, both cash (via online donations) as well as in-kind donations such as raffle prizes, signs, decorations, entertainment, food, beverages and other event materials. If you plan to contact companies, please let A Lust for Life know ahead of time at support@alustforlife.com.
We have tools available for download including posters, bunting and more!
Also, when you register as an event host, you’ll receive a welcome kit via post within 2 weeks. The welcome kit includes a wristband, a poster (which you can customise with your event details), some stickers and a fundraising guide which can also be folded and used as a tabletop sign.
If there are other materials which you’d like to request for your event, please contact us.
Simply make an online donation on your event page based on the total funds you collected at your event. Be sure to select the “Collected Offline” button on the donation form so we know it’s not a personal donation. For advice on how to collect cash at your event, please view our Community Fundraising Guidelines and Cash Remittance Advice Sheet.
