In one of our schools, a teacher recently told us about a boy named Jack, who always found the quiet moments in class the hardest.
Jack had been struggling with impulsivity for years. Sitting still felt impossible. Meditation? That was the part of school he dreaded most. The silence made him fidgety, restless, and tempted to act out. Not because he wanted to disrupt, but because it was simply too hard.
But over the weeks, something began to shift.
It wasn’t one big dramatic moment. It was the gentle rhythm of the A Lust for Life Schools Programme.
The repetition, the structure, the pause–think–act, which gave him small, safe chances to practise emotional regulation in ways that felt doable.
One day, during a short meditation, Jack stayed calm and quiet for the full two minutes
His teacher gently asked him afterwards,
“How did you manage it today?”
Jack thought for a second and said:
“I could hear the kids outside… but I didn’t think it was a very good time to be bubbling away. So I just didn’t.”
For Jack, that tiny choice was enormous.
It meant he understood the expectation. He understood himself. And for the first time, he felt capable of holding that moment of calm.
His teacher told us:
“You don’t always see the change during the lessons. It’s afterwards, in real life, when they can finally use the tools we’ve been giving them.”
For Jack, meditation happened to click at this moment - but the beauty of our programme is that if it doesnt work for other kids, we offer different tools help them feel safe and regulated.
No one size fits all, but with your support we can create small moments of confidence that grow into lifelong skills for every child.
This Christmas, you can give more children like Jack the tools to manage their emotions, build resilience, and feel safe inside themselves.
