Fun kayak and picnic for A Lust for Life

Rise up for youth mental health and support this event

I’m planning an event to raise funds for youth mental health – I am hoping to get a bunch of fun loving people together to kayak from Galway harbour to Oranmore Castle. We hope to stop off at Ballyloughane to have a picnic with anyone who would like to come along for some craic.

A Lust for Life is working hard to give every child in Ireland the skills to look after their mental health from an early age. They’ve already empowered nearly half of primary school children – let’s help them reach the rest.

Please support A Lust for Life by attending this event. Can’t make it? No problem! You can still make a donation on this page and help provide vital mental health education to children across Ireland.

We hope to hold the event in late August and will keep you up to date on plans here.

Kayak and picnic postponed

Thursday 28th Aug
Hi all, Unfortunately the forecast for Saturday is not getting any better and we have decided to postpone to a later date when wind and rain won't interrupt our fun. We will keep a close eye on the forecast for the weekends ahead and keep you posted on new plans. Thanks again for all the support 😊

Update

Tuesday 26th Aug
We have decided to stick with our plan to do the fundraiser this Saturday 30th with beach picnic at 12:30 at Ballyloughane beach. However due to it being too windy for the sea we will be kayaking on the canal in the city at 10:30 instead. We will do the longer kayak at a later date. We hope to meet lots of kids for fun at the beach, there is a possibility there will be rain but we will hope for some dry weather and bring raingear just in case! If anyone is in town give us a wave on the canal and hope to see lots of you at the beach at 12:30.

Lovely evening kayaking

Monday 11th Aug
5 of us got together this evening for a lovely kayak from Ballyloughane to the harbour.  The sea was flat calm, just what we would hope for on the 30th!

Training on Ballyquirke lake

Saturday 26th Jul
Fabulous kayak this morning from Ballyquirke lake down canals, a real adventure through the reeds to spots you can only get to on a kayak,  and we saw a kingfisher 😊

Plan update

Friday 25th Jul
So we are hoping for Sat 30th August, if we are lucky to get the calm sea we wish for we will head from Oranmore Castle at high tide at 10am and go to Ballyloughane beach. New plan is to picnic at the beach and give anyone who would like a little spin in the kayaks turns from the beach. We will provide buoyancy aids. Looking forward to it!

Training with the dolphins!

Wednesday 2nd Jul
What a wonderful evening training for the fundraiser with Mary Sweeney. We did the first part of our planned kayak from the harbour to Ballyloughane and on our way back we spent some time watching lots of fish jumping, made friends with a few seals and then had the pleasure of a dolphin show from Nimmo and his friends just out from Nimmos pier.  Hopefully they continue to join us and maybe even be around for the fundraiser 🤞

Planning begins

Wednesday 4th Jun
So excited to be back planning for this year's event. I'm delighted to have all my original kayakers from last year joining me again and we are starting our recruit for more! We are hoping to plan lots of fun on the beach where we stop for a little break. As we are fundraising for Youth Mental Health and anyone who knows me knows how much I value the importance of play for our little ones I would love to have as many kids as possible having fun on the beach- buckets and spades, footballs, frisbees, picnics while cheering us onwards 😊

Thank you to my Sponsors
